The 26th IHF Women’s World Championship has been underway for almost three weeks, and the handball fever has been noticeable in the various host cities. In Herning, they have, among other things, put up large HERNING letters in the city, illuminating in the colors of the World Championship.

Herning is one of the Danish host cities for this year’s IHF Women’s World Championship, and its presence has been felt. For example, the Herning municipality has made tote bags out of old banners from previous events such as the Equestrian World Championship and the European Handball Championship. They were given as a gift for all the players, who came to the city for the preliminary round.

Now, large HERNING letters have been placed in two locations in the city: in the city center of Herning and at Jyske Bank Boxen arena. The letters light up in the colors of the 26th IHF Women’s World Championship, contributing to the overall experience of handball fever.

A group of enthusiastic carpentry apprentices from Herningsholm Vocational School and Gymnasium have spent the past few weeks creating these impressive HERNING letters.

The letters help spread handball fever, joy, and light throughout the city when darkness falls. The carpentry apprentices who contributed in making them are delighted to be a part of the handball excitement:

“It’s also great that you can just walk by and see people’s joy at what you’ve created. Most people are positive about it. It’s lovely to be able to contribute to creating some atmosphere,” says Anne Mette Blæsbjerg, who is 18 years old and from Ikast.

Malene Mikkelsen, who is also a carpentry apprentice from Herningsholm Vocational School, are glad, that the letters can be seen by everyone, and are proud to be a part of the project:

“I think it’s super cool to have been a part of this project. Especially because you can see that what you’ve created is being used. And everyone can see it here in the city center; it’s not something that will only be in a private garden. The IHF Women’s World Championship is a big deal, and it’s exciting to be a part of it,” says Malene Mikkelsen.
